Rangers will interview Rick Tocchet for head coach job
Another candidate emerges
As reported by Elliotte Friedman and Craig Morgan, the New York Rangers will be interviewing Rick Tocchet in their search for a new head coach. According to Frank Seravelli, Tocchet is also in the mix for the job as the first head coach of the Seattle Kraken.

Tocchet, 57, has been the head coach of the Arizona Coyotes for the past four seasons but recently agreed to part ways with the organization and general manager Bill Armstrong after his contract had expired. Prior to coaching the Coyotes, Tocchet was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning between 2009-2010 and won two Stanley Cups as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
During his playing career, Tocchet piled up 952 points and 2912 PIM in 1144 games. He also won a Cup as a player (1992) during his tenure with Pittsburgh. He played for the Flyers, the Penguins, the Coyotes, the Kings, the Bruins, and the Capitals during his 18-year career.
In 438 games as a head coach with the Coyotes and Lightning, Tocchet has a record of 178-200-60. In the past three seasons in the desert, the Coyotes went 96-90-22 in 208 games. He guided the team to the 2020 postseason, where Arizona beat the Nashville Predators in a 3-1 qualifying series before losing in five games to the Colorado Avalanche.
