Game #56: New York Rangers vs Boston Bruins Open Thread

All good things must come to an end. On an a totally unrelated note, the Rangers are set to play for the final time this season before heading into what will be a whirlwind of an offseason for a team transition. The unexpected firing of Jeff Gorton and John Davidson from their front office positions have thrust former team captain Chris Drury into a position of power. James Dolan has vocalized his frustrations with the Blueshirts, feeling they lack certain elements he believes necessary to bring home the franchise’s second Stanley Cup since America entered World War II.

The only certainty about the Rangers right now is the uncertainty around the team with the offseason right around the corner. Cornerstone players could be playing their final games for the team this afternoon. It’s more likely than not that David Quinn will be making his final appearance behind New York’s bench today. With only 60:00 left in the 2020-21 season, all that’s left to do is enjoy it.

Player to Watch: Mika Zibanejad

Even prior to the wholesale changes in the front office, there had been rumblings that Zibanejad’s time on Broadway would come to an end this summer. Set to be a free agent following the 2021-22 campaign, the Rangers have to think over the options of trading or extending Zibanejad’s contract over the summer. The Swedish pivot has been bandied about as a piece to use in trade talks to land Jack Eichel from Buffalo. Keep an eye on Zibanejad in what could be his last game with the team.

Enjoy the game!
