Rangers Assign Brennan Othmann to Flint Firebirds of OHL

The New York Rangers have assigned their 2021 first-round pick Brennan Othmann to the Flint Firebirds of the OHL.

Othmann played 11:55 in a 3-2 preseason victory over the Boston Bruins, and will spend his 2021-22 season in Junior. Last season he played for EHC Olten where he tallied 16 points in 34 games with the OHL shutdown due to COVID-19.

In addition to Othmann’s assignment, the Rangers placed a number of players who could start the season in the AHL on waivers.

Not listed here was Jarred Tinordi, who is signed at $900,000 for the next two seasons. He makes the same amount of money whether he’s in the AHL or NHL, but it was interesting to see him not on waivers whereas Anthony Bitetto was. There still time in the preseason for things to change, but it was something interesting worth mentioning. The players on waivers are still part of training camp, but this at least gives an inkling on how the front office is planning on whittling down the roster to the eventual 23 spots for opening night.

The Rangers will play in their next preseason game tomorrow vs. the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. Nothing is set in stone in terms of personnel for that game, but here’s what the lines were at practice today.
