Best New York Rangers Wins Of The First Half

Kevin and I are working together on a "best of" series for the blog. First, we bring you the best five games of the first half of the 2011-2012 New York Rangers season.

5. October 31st: Rangers 5, Sharks 2: For the Rangers, this was the first home win of the season, and it came against a team that is considered one of the best in the league. Ryan Callahan flew across the ice, showing why the Rangers named him Captain in the off-season. Joe Thornton would call the Rangers "soft" after the win, leading to the Rangers proving him wrong throughout the season. Here are the highlights of the game.

4. December 17th: Rangers 3, Coyotes 2: The Rangers won this game on a goal by Brad Richards with 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation. The game was fast paced and physical, and for the Rangers to eek out the win the way they did helped show that this team can win any game any way. Here are the highlights of the game.

3. October 21st: Rangers 3, Flames 2: Another 3-2 win for the Rangers, this time the game winning goal coming with 1.8 seconds left, and being scored by Ryan McDonagh. The Rangers fought for the win like crazy throughout the entire game, and got the win, just like they did in game #4. Here are the highlights of the game.

2. January 21st: Rangers 3, Bruins 2: Yet another 3-2 win for the Rangers! Another one that came with a late OT goal, this time off the stick of Marian Gaborik. The only team left for the Rangers to beat at the beginning of the game was the Bruins, and by the end of the day it became clear that the Rangers could beat any team in the NHL. Here are the highlights of the game.

1. January 2nd: Rangers 3, Flyers 2: You know it's a big win when Joe writes the recap! There are many reasons that this is the best win of the Rangers season, but the beauty of it all is that it happened in the Winter Classic.

Mike Rupp caused controversy with his "Jagr salute' after scoring his first goal, and also scored another goal to help the Rangers beat the Flyers in the Classic. Brad Richards scored the winning goal for the Rangers in the comeback victory over the hated rivals.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped the most exciting penalty shot I've ever seen to seal the win for the Rangers.

Here are the highlights for the game.
