With the NHL trade deadline rapidly approaching, the rumor mill is spinning and the deals are already starting to come in. This running trade tracker will keep tabs on every move made around the league as contenders load up, sellers cash in assets, and front offices try to position themselves for a playoff run—or the future. While we’ll cover every notable deal across the NHL, there will of course be a particular focus on the New York Rangers and how the market is shaping their options.

This post will be updated throughout the day as trades are reported and confirmed, so keep refreshing for the latest deadline news and analysis.

New York Rangers Specific News

Pending: The New York Rangers acquired forward Jacob Battaglia from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Brennan Othmann (4:15 p.m., 3/6/26)

Good for Brennan Othmann. He needs a change of scenery as bad as anyone and wish him nothing but the best in Calgary. He should, hopefully, get a good chance with a rebuilding Flames team. As for Battaglia, he's a 6-1, left-handed winger that can also play center and was a 62nd overall pick in 2024. He's in the midst of his last OHL season and has 43 points in 58 games, now with the Flint Firebirds. He is teammates with Rangers prospect Nathan Aspinall.

Vincent Trocheck

The New York Rangers will not be moving Vincent Trocheck ahead of the 2026 trade deadline. There was some smoke in the final hour that Carolina was making a big push on a deal that involved Jesperi Kotkaniemi (Emily Kaplan) but as first reported by Frank Seravalli, (also mentioned earlier by Kaplan and Jonny Lazarus) the Rangers would be holding onto Trocheck.

The New York Rangers have acquired forward Aidan Thompson from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Derrick Pouliot (2:27 p.m. 3/6/26)

An AHL move but a wise swap for the Rangers to make. Pouliot was signed to a two-year deal this summer and is no longer needed as much as he was when he signed. As for Aidan Thompson, we'll have more to come but he was a 90th overall pick in 2022. A left handed center that in his first full AHL season has 15 points in 40 games played. More long term potential and more of a positional need for the Rangers, solid bit of business.

The Rangers have also assigned Jaroslav Chmelar and Jusso Parssinen to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. As Keegan alludes to, this very well could be a paper transaction to allow the two to be AHL eligible later this season.

According to Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic, Trocheck is not practicing with the Rangers today as expected. Of course, the team isn't calling it roster management. (12:02 p.m. 3/6/36)

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers are prepared to hold onto Trocheck if they do not get an offer they are completely satisfied with. (8:54 a.m. 3/6/26)

The New York Rangers have acquired a 2026 third round and sixth round pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Sam Carrick (8:00 a.m. 3/6/26)

We will have full coverage on this trade so stayed tuned for separate stories on Ranger news. A slightly underwhelming return in comparisson to the Nic Dowd and Michael McCarron trades, but still very fair business for a veteran fourth liner.

Vincent Trocheck and Sam Carrick were officially held out of the Rangers lineup tonight for roster management purposes (3/5/26)

As of noon (March 5), Arthur Staple of Daily Faceoff suggests no news could actually be bad news in terms of significant business getting done before the deadline. Drury could wait until the summer to handle the Trocheck deal but could still sell depth players like Sam Carrick or Taylor Raddysh.

Around The League Trades, Rumors and News

The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Nazem Kadri and a 2027 fourth round pick from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a conditional 2028 first round pick, a conditional 2027 second round pick, forwards Victor Olofsson and Max Curran (4:05 p.m. 3/6/26)

One of the bigger moves of the day, made lots of sense as Kadri has had success with Colorado in the past (2022 Stanley Cup Champion) and wanted to be moved to a contender. Kadri is signed through 2029 and carries a hefty cap hit but the Avalanche are going for it and he can help them do that. The Flames on the other hand, get a good bundle and free up tons of cap space.

The Buffalo Sabres acquired forward Tanner Pearson from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a seventh round pick (4 p.m. 3/6/2026)

Another depth pick up for the Sabres who are looking to make some noise in the postseason. Pearson could be a good secondary scorer in the bottom six.

The New York Islanders are extending forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau on a three-year contract extension (3:25 p.m. 3/6/26)

The Islanders will hold onto Pageau for the next three years, his new AAV will come in at $4.85 million.

The Boston Bruins acquired forward Lukas Reichel from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a sixth round pick (3:25 p.m. 3/6/26)

Reichel was on waivers earlier this season, the Bruins become his third team this year.

The Washington Capitals acquired David Kampf from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a sixth round pick (3:25 p.m. 3/6/26)

Depth forward to fill in the hole left by Nic Dowd, Kampf has had a rough year and will look to bounce back in Washington.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Scott Laughton from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional third round pick (3:25 p.m. 3/6/26)

This might be one of the more surprising buzzer beater moves of the day. It definitely felt like the Kings were playing the deadline as conservative sellers but reportedly bought Laughton at the last minute. The conditions on the trade are that it becomes a second if the Kings make the postseason.

The Calgary Flames acquired forward Ryan Strome from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a 2027 seventh round pick (3:08 p.m. 3/6/2026)

Has to be a combination of a salary cap dump as well as Strome being pushed out of the Ducks lineup. There is some speculation that perhaps there is a Nazem Kadri trade in the works after all, otherwise, doesn't make a ton of sense for a team like Calgary to go out of their way for a Ryan Strome type, even if only for a seventh.

The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Justin Faulk from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Justin Holl, forward Dmitri Buchelnikov, a first, and a third round pick (3:06 p.m. 3/6/26)

This one is baffling. A first and a third for... okay I thought Justin Faulk was a bit older than he actually is, but still. There's been injuries, lots of wear and tear, it's been reported that Dylan Larkin wasn't happy at Steve Yzerman's lack of business in the past. I'm unsure this is the type of move Larkin, or anyone was really hoping for Detroit to pull off.

The Seattle Kraken acquired forward Bobby McMann from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2027 second round pick and a 2026 fourth round pick (3:03 p.m. 3/6/26)

As has been rumored all day long, the Leafs are working on a potential deal to send Bobby McMann to the Seattle Kraken. A bit interesting in the sense that it sounded like Colorado and Edmonton were the front runners there.

The Florida Panthers working on extending goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky

There was some speculation that pending UFA goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky could be on the move but just before the 3 p.m. trade deadline, it was being reported that the Panthers were working on a potential extension.

Forward Mathieu Joseph signs with the Los Angeles Kings after clearing waivers (2:23 p.m. 3/6/26)

After being place on unconditional waivers yesterday for purpose of contract termination, Joseph signed a one-year, $900,000 deal with the Los Angeles Kings. Makes sense as he played under their new head coach D.J. Smith in Ottawa and the Kings have made a couple trades, opening up roster spots.

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Elmer Soderblom from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a 2026 third round pick (2:16p.m. 3/6/26)

A bottom six forward with size, Soderblom wasn't getting the ice time he probably deserves in Detroit, can be a great fourth line option for the Penguins down the stretch.

The New York Islanders acquired forward Brayden Schenn from the New York Islanders in exchange for Jonathan Drouin, goaltender Marcus Gildof, Colorado's 2026 first round pick and a third round pick (2:08 p.m. 3/6/26)

Great pick up for a team in a playoff position trying to make a push. Veteran forward with experience, can play a number of roles, comes with a Stanley Cup under his belt. Good bit of business for the Islanders.

The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Timothy Liljegren from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2026 fourth round pick (2:04 p.m. 3/6/26)

Would certainly make sense for a number of reasons. The Capitals just traded away John Carlson so they have a hole on their right side. On top of that, they have Rasmus Sandin who played with Liljegren in Toronto so a bit of a reunion there. Liljegren is no John Carlson, but a quality pick up for a fairly low cost.

Waiver Wire Updates

There were a number of players that were placed on waivers by their respective clubs (2 p.m. 3/5/26):

The New Jersey Devils have waived forwards Evgenii Dadonov, Luke Glendening, and Maxim Tsyplakov. The Vegas Golden Knights have waived forwards Alexander Holtz and Cole Reinhardt. The Tampa Bay Lightning have waived Curtis Douglas and the Philadelphia Flyers have waived Garrett Wilson

As of 2 p.m. on 3/6/26, the following players have been claimed by the following teams:

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forward Nicolas Deslauries from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick (1:54 p.m. 3/6/26)

David Pagnotta reported around 1:30 that Carolina was working on a move for a bottom-six forward. Turns out, noted tough guy Nic Deslauriers would be that guy. A career fourth liner that's tough as nails and could be a depth option for the Canes as they look to finally make it passed the third round of the playoffs.

The Seattle Kraken have signed their captain Jordan Eberle to a two-year contract extension (12:42 p.m. 3/6/26)

The veteran winger was set to be a UFA this summer and with Seattle looking to remain in a playoff spot, they clearly decided that keeping Eberle is more valuable than trading him. Eberle's new AAV will be $5.5 million for the next two seasons.

The Florida Panthers acquired forward Vinnie Hinostroza from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for future considerations (12:40 p.m. 3/6/26)

After adding Brink and Foligno, Hinostroza was going to be buried in the depth charts. Gets the chance to continue playing in Florida as he will be looking for a new home this summer in free agency.

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired forward Corey Perry from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2028 second round draft pick (12:12 p.m. 3/6/26)

It's the oldest trick in the book. You want to ensure you get to the Stanley Cup Final? Acquire Corey Perry. Winning it, now that's a different story. Can Perry finally get over that hump? (although people forget, he won a Cup as a rookie) Or will he fall short in the chase once again? The Kings are also retaining 50% of Perry's cap hit.

The Minnesota Wild acquired forward Nick Foligno from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for future considerations (1:45 a.m. 3/6/26)

More Rangers implications, after acquiring McCarron, Petry, Brink, and now Foligno, I'd be shocked if the Wild were still in on Trocheck. Nevertheless, Foligno is another veteran trying to win a Cup before he calls it a career, similar to Petry. Most notably, Nick gets the chance to play and compete for a Cup alongside his brother, Marcus Foligno. This is absolutely the Blackhawks doing their captain a solid by sending him to a preferred destination for little to no return.

The Boston Bruins acquired forwards Alexis Gendron and Massimo Rizzo from the Philadelhpia Flyers in exchange for forward Brett Harrison and defenseman Jackson Edward (11:33 a.m. 3/6/26)

Minor league swap for both sides, not much to write home about. All players are set to be RFA's after this season save for Edward who is signed through next season on his entry-level contract.

The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to a two-year contract extension.

Nedeljkovic would have been a UFA this summer and has a season record of 11-9-2 with a .902 save percentage. His new AAV will start at an even $3 million for the next two seasons.

Minnesota Wild acquired forward Bobby Brink from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman David Jiricek (10:24 a.m. 3/6/26)

This definitely has some implications for the Rangers. Have to think that Brink is the type of player Guerin could label a "plan B" to the Trocheck plan. He's not a center, is a bit smaller but still plays a rugged game and could provide depth scoring. Have to wonder what it's going to take for Jiricek, who has been traded twice now, to stick with an NHL club. There's also a chance that Jiricek was the defense prospect included in the tabled Trocheck trade. There hasn't been any confirmation that the Wild are out on Trocheck, but this could be a sign.

Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman John Carlson from the Washington Capitals in exchange for a conditional 2026 first round pick and a 2027 third round pick (1:11 a.m. 3/6/26)

I mean, this one is just shocking. John Carlson has been with Washington through everything. 17 seasons, over 1,000 games, playoff shortcomings, finally a Stanley Cup, Ovechkin breaking Gretzky's record, and now, he's a Duck. The picks are good assets but for Capitals fans, it's impossible to feel good about this trade. As for Anaheim, you have to love the trade for them. They're going for it, he has all the experience you could ask for and brings some offense to the right side of their blue line which is mainly physical and defensive.

Buffalo Sabres acquired defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for F Isak Rosen, D Jacob Bryson, a 2027 second round pick, and a 2026 fourth round pick (1:00 a.m. 3/6/26)

The Sabres needed to change plans after the Parayko trade fell through and in doing so, get a pair of defensemen from Winnipeg. Definitely not on the same level as Parayko but Schenn is a serviceable veteran defenseman and Stanley is another big body that can play on the bottom pair. The Sabres gave up a bundle to get these two as Rosen is a skilled winger with a good shot that still has some upside. They're no Parayko but the Sabres now have a well-stocked cupboard in terms of defense.

Columbus Blue Jackets acquired forward Connor Garland from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2026 third round pick and a 2028 second round pick (12:30 a.m. 3/6/26)

A pretty substantial move for a team still on the outside looking in regarding the playoff picture. I do like this move for Columbus. Garland is a solid middle-six forward that can agitate opponents, contribute offensively and help them push for the playoffs. Garland is in the final year of a five-year contract but is signed through the next six years with trade protection. If the Blue Jackets are finally going to shift out of rebuild mode and look to be competitive moving forward, this is a great trade to try and do that.

Detroit Red Wings acquired forward David Perron from Ottawa Senators in exchange for a conditional 2026 fourth round pick (8:05 p.m. 3/5/26)

At 33-years-old, Perron has over 1,200 career games in the NHL under his belt as well as a Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019. Perron rejoins the Red Wings as he spent two years with them between 2022 and 2024 where he put up 56 and 47 points respectively. The conditions on the trade are as followed:

Notable Healthy Scratches (March 5 Roster Management Decisions)

New York Rangers: Vincent Trocheck and Sam Carrick*

Toronto Maple Leafs: Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Bobby McMann*, and Scott Laughton*

Winnipeg Jets: Defenseman Luke Schenn* and Logan Stanley*

Florida Panthers: A.J. Greer and Sergei Bobrovskiy (backing up)

*= have since been traded

Anaheim Ducks extend forward Ryan Poehling to a four-year contract (7:36 p.m. 3/5/26)

A real underrated depth player, Poehling has agreed to a significant extension to stay in Anaheim. A defensively responsible bottom six center that skates like the wind and has better offensive skills than you'd think, if Nic Dowd got Vegas a second, third and player, can only imagine what he would have went for on the trade market.

The Dallas Stars acquired forward Michael Bunting from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a third round pick (5:26 p.m. 3/5/26)

Makes sense for the Stars, Bunting is a solid middle-six winger that can contribute secondary offense while bringing a spark both in terms of physicality and all around energy. Lots of options with him in the Stars' lineup.

The Ottawa Senators acquired forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings receive a 2026 second round pick and swap third rounders with Ottawa (5:50 p.m. 3/5/26).

It was mentioned earlier that the Senators were going to be buyers heading into the trade deadline and this feels like a low stakes type of move that could help them remain competitive in the Atlantic. The Kings get a second back and the better third round pick.

The Minnesota Wild acquired defenseman Jeff Petry from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a conditional seventh round pick (3/5/26)

Low stakes pick up for the Wild. Petry has over 1,000 career games played in the NHL and has never won a Stanley Cup. At 38-years-old, this could be his last crack at it and the Wild are a team that gives him the chance to go for it. He might spend more games in the press box than on the ice but is a good veteran depth option if any guys need a break or get banged up along the way.

The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Jett Woo from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Jack Thompson (3/5/26)

Mainly a minor league swap involving two right handed defensemen, Woo was drafted 37th overall in 2018 whereas Thompson went 93rd overall in 2020. Woo has a career tally of 91 points in almost 300 AHL games. Thompson has the same amount of points in 203 career AHL games as well as 10 points in 34 NHL games.

St. Louis Blue - Colton Parayko, Robert Thomas and Mathieu Joseph

(4p.m. 3/6/26)UPDATE: The Blues hold on to Thomas, Parayko and Jordan Kyrou

As of 1p.m. (3/5/26) Colton Parayko has decided NOT to waive his trade protection in the rumored exchange (Radim Mrtka and a first round pick) and therefore will NOT be going to the Buffalo Sabres. Reports suggest Parayko could still be open to a trade, just not to Buffalo. According to Kevin Weekes, Parayko would prefer to stay in the West and is open to the Los Angeles Kings and the St. Louis Blues.

The latest surrounding Robert Thomas is that the asking price from the Blues is incredibly high. They are looking for multiple first round picks, equivalent players and prospects as part of the package. Given the contract term and trade protection, there is no pressure for St. Louis to get a deal done by tomorrow.

Mathieu Joseph—who was waived by the Blues last week, is back on waivers for purpose of contract termination. Assuming he clears, Joseph will be free to sign with any team that's interested. He is in the final year of a contract with a $1.8 million cap hit and can be a valuable bottom-six forward with flashes of offense.

The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2027 first round pick and a 2026 fifth round pick (3/5/26)

This is a really good deal for Colorado who can benefit from an additional forward. Roy is a versatile forward that can play center or slot in on either wing as needed. By definition, he's the type of player any playoff team greatly benefits from. There are conditions associated with both picks, this is good business for the Avalanche. As for Toronto, let's just say this will make the Mitch Marner trade tree, interesting.

The Vegas Golden Knights acquired forward Nic Dowd from the Washington Capitals in exchange for goaltender Jesper Vikman, a 2027 third round pick and a 2029 second round pick (3/5/26)

Quite a hefty return for a fourth line center so if this is the standard in this current market, the Rangers have to be taking offers on Sam Carrick. Dowd is a face-off specialist, fits a role on a playoff teams fourth line, can kill penalties and bring an edge. He'll fit in swimmingly with the Golden Knights. And as is tradition with Vegas...

The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Andrew Mangiapagne and a conditional 2027 first round pick (3/4/26)

Again, no secret Edmonton is looking to piece together their best roster heading into the playoffs. The Mangiapagne peice of this is the fact that they need to dump salary which likely plays into the fact that they gave up a first rounder in this deal. Dickinson is a good depth forward and Dach is a guy that can maybe be a role player down the road.

The Utah Mammoth acquire defenseman Mackenzie Weeger from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenseman Olli Maatta, forward Jonathan Castagna, and three 2026 second round picks (3/4/26)

A bit of a surprise as there wasn't a ton of chatter surrounding Weegar who has only ever played in Calgary. What isn't a surprise is that Calgary is going to be selling and Utah is making moves to get into the postseason. This is a trade that makes sense for both sides

The Colorado Avalanche acquire defenseman Nick Blankenburg from the Nashville Predators in exchange for 2027 fifth round pick (3/4/26)

It's funny, if Blankenburg was a couple of inches taller, he surely would have cost at least a third. A speedy, offensive-defenseman that plays taller than he is (5-9) and can move the puck, Blankenburg essentially takes on some of what Samuel Girard did for Colorado, just on the right side. Not a bad pick up as Colorado bolsters their blue line for the playoffs. As for Nashville, tidy business picking up three draft picks for some depth players.

The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Tyler Myers from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2027 second round pick and a 2029 fourth round pick (3/4/26)

In line with the Murphy trade, Dallas doesn't have a ton of options on the right side of their blue line. Myers has McCarron size but the defensive responsibilities of Murphy. It's a good pick up for Dallas and not an egregious price to pay.

The Vegas Golden Knights acquire forward Cole Smith from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Christian Sedoff and a 2028 third round pick (3/4/26)

Similar concept as with the McCarron trade, Vegas is a playoff team and a depth piece like Cole Smith helps. Sedoff probably never sniffs the NHL and a third round pick isn't nothing but a justifiable asset to give up for a guy who can help you potentially win now.

The Minnesota Wild acquire forward Michael McCarron from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2028 second round pick (3/4/26)

This one is certainly interesting. Playoff teams are always looking for depth at the trade deadline but paying a second rounder for a career fourth liner is certainly a choice. McCarron is a right winger that can slot in at center if needed and at 6-6, 232 pounds, has enticing size. The kicker of course, is the USA Hockey ties both he and Wild GM Bill Guerin share.

The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2028 second round pick (3/4/26)

It's no secret the Oilers are going to do as much buying as they possibly can to try and help make this the year Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl finally lead their team to the promised land. With Evan Bouchard and former Rangers prospect Ty Emberson being the only right shot defensemen on the Oilers' blue line, bringing in a seasoned veteran like Murphy who can slot in on the second pairing makes plenty of sense ahead of the postseason.
