On April 18, I sat across from Casey Fitzgerald at a press conference following the final game of the Hartford Wolf Pack's 2024-25 season. They had been mathematically eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs and were headed for their longest offseason in three years.

Despite the 4-1 win over their in-state rivals, the Bridgeport Islanders, the disappointment in Fitzgerald's voice was evident.

"You wish you could’ve just given more to get us to that postseason," the Wolf Pack captain told Blueshirt Banter.

The loss stuck with Fitzgerald and the entire Wolf Pack roster for months. When training camp finally arrived, Fitzgerald went right to work. He assisted on the Rangers' first goal of the preseason, slipping a slick feed to Gabe Perreault in an eventual 5-3 defeat of the New Jersey Devils.

"My whole family was there," Fitzgerald joked—his dad, Tom Fitzgerald, is the president of hockey operations and general manager of the Devils. "Gonna have to bring them along more often."

After a solid camp with the Rangers, Fitzgerald eventually returned to the Connecticut capital, where he resumed his role as captain. Fitzgerald has helped lead what he's called a "really great" Wolf Pack training camp.

"I’m confident in our group," Fitzgerald told Blueshirt Banter at Wolf Pack media day on Monday. "Last year is what it is, it wasn’t up to our standards. I think the guys who are coming back this year are hungry and have that sour taste in their mouth from last season. We’re here to win, and that’s all I want to do."

"I’m excited, I think it’s gonna be a special year with a really good group of guys."
