Dan Girardi Hurt In St. Louis, Could Be “More Than Day-to-Day”

The New York Rangers may be without Dan Girardi for a little while, after he left Saturday night’s game with a hip-flexor injury. Girardi left the game for several minutes during the second period, returned a short time after, but never stepped back into the game. When the team’s came back out for the third period, Girardi was no where to be seen, and the Rangers announced shortly after that Girardi was done for the evening.

Following the game, Alain Vigneault mentioned that Girardi will be further evaluated tomorrow, but right now he’s expecting him to be “more than day-to-day.” With Girardi expected to be out for at least the next couple of games, this kind of forces AV’s hand to make a switch on defense. Kevin Klein is still dealing with a back strain, so Dylan McIlrath will most likely make his season debut on Monday night against the San Jose Sharks.

Hopefully the Rangers make sure Girardi is fully healthy before returning this time around, unlike last season where he played through a fractured kneecap. We’ll continue to update as we hear more, but for now, we’ll look forward to Monday night’s game.
