Discussion of the Day: 9/20/23

Yesterday the New York Rangers unveiled their training camp roster, and shared the schedule of events that start today.

Of these names, only 4 are training camp invites, and 4 are on AHL contracts. That breakdown is as follows:

That leads to today’s prompt which is somewhat related to yesterdays but not entirely the same.

Which player(s) stood out on the training camp list that many people likely aren’t thinking about?

Essentially this could be a case of remembering some guys whether it be a Hartford Wolf Pack player that is on an NHL deal like Bobby Trivigno, a goalie prospect like Dylan Garand, or someone entirely different. There’s no right or wrong answer here. For me, my answer is a result of me scanning the list and going… oh yeah I forgot about this guy and I wonder what they are here for?

For me, Anton Blidh is a name I hadn’t thought about, and he certainly is someone who could work their way into a bottom-six role in which his main responsibility is killing penalties. He finished last season with 23 points in 53 AHL games, and 7 points in 9 playoff games. He joined the organization in the Gustav Rydahl trade, and it feels like the Rangers acquired a lot of players like him in free agency.

Mac Hollowell is another interesting one, as he’s a defenseman that stands just 5’9″ and weighs 187 pounds, and I wonder what the organization has planned for him considering that Zac Jones, who is 5’10” and 179 pounds hasn’t gotten much run at the NHL level.
