Nick Bonino, who played 45 games with the Rangers in the 2023-24 season, has officially announced his retirement from hockey.

Bonino was signed to play a fourth line center role with the Rangers in the summer of 2023, ahead of a season they expected to go on another Stanley Cup run. However, as the team went through a mid-season slump, Bonino’s place in the lineup became expendable and he opted not to report to the Hartford Wolf Pack after being placed on waivers and eventually clearing.

Since then, Bonino played 22 games with Ljublajana Olimpija HK in Austria this past year. In conjunction with his retirement, Bonino has also announced that he will be joining former Rangers assistant coach Dan Muse’s staff in Pittsburgh. Bonino helped the Penguins win back-to-back Cups in 2016 and 2017 and hangs up the skates with 868 career games played and 358 career points under his belt.

Congrats on a remarkable career, Nick! Rangers fans will always appreciate you for giving us yet another moment of Sam Rosen glory from your first goal in New York.
