Game #1: New York Rangers vs. Boston Bruins Open Thread

After an offseason that felt like it lasted a lifetime, New York Rangers' hockey is finally here. The Rangers went 2-2 this preseason and finalized their roster over the last few days in preparation for tonight. Among their final moves was waiving Dylan Garand, who cleared and has since been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan will coach his 1000th game tonight.

The Blueshirts' lines did not change much throughout training camp, with Scott Morrow, Mathew Robertson, and Jaroslav Chmelar being the healthy scratches. Fifth-overall pick Aberts Smits will make his NHL debut tonight. Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy will not play, as he is serving a suspension for his slash against Zach Benson. Former Ranger Will Borgen will play his former team in his first game with the Bruins.

Player to Watch: J.T. Miller

There is no avoiding it; J.T. Miller was a flat-out disappointment a season ago. If the Rangers are going to find success, their captain must have a bounce-back season that looks something like a point per game. Trading for Miller has been one of, if not the, biggest risks for general manager Chris Drury, and it hasn't paid off.

That being said, in his return to New York, he was a point-per-game player and was likely battling through injuries last season. All hope isn't lost on Miller bouncing back, but if he doesn't show something soon, it may be.
