Game #23: Montreal Canadiens vs New York Rangers Open Thread
If there was ever a spot for a "get right" game, it's this one. Mired in a five-game losing streak following yet another sub-par effort in Philadelphia on Friday, the Rangers have returned to Madison Square Garden for an Original Six clash with the Montreal Canadiens.
It's looking like another season to nowhere for Les Habitants, as Martin St. Louis' squad currently sits dead last in the Eastern Conference with an 8-11-3 record. The usual cast of high-octane players is still here, with Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and friends doing what they can, but the Habs generally haven't been able to outscore their poor defense this season. Just as the Rangers look at the Canadiens as a bounce back opportunity, Montreal will be looking at New York in the same light as the Rangers teeter on the brink of massive changes if things don't turn around quick. Jonathan Quick will tend goal for the Blueshirts following Igor Shesterkin's start yesterday.
Player to Watch: Jacob Trouba
While certain sects of the Rangers fan base have been critical of Trouba's play for some time, things are starting to boil over for the team captain. Another poor showing on the ice on Friday, combined with what appears to be apathy from his teammates, has some wondering whether Trouba has mentally checked out from the team that looked to trade him over the summer. Trouba's name, along with Chris Kreider, was dropped in trade rumors once again earlier in the week, so keep an eye on Trouba today.
Enjoy the game!
