Following their win on home ice against the St. Louis Blues, the Rangers are heading to Raleigh to take on their in-division rivals, the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes stand atop the Metropolitan with 30 points, while the Rangers sit at the bottom with 24. The Rangers were defeated in their previous matchup with the Hurricanes 3-0.
Head coach Mike Sullivan has stated that captain J.T. Miller and Will Borgen will both be game-time decisions. Miller has missed the last two games due to an upper-body injury. Borgen's performance has been flying under the radar, but he has been stellar when in the lineup. Former Ranger K'Andre Miller did not suit up the first time they played his old team, but he will take the ice tonight.
Player to Watch: Igor Shesterkin
Igor Shesterkin is back in net tonight for the Blueshirts, and he has to carry his weight and a little more at that. With the possibility of Borgen not playing, Shesterkin is going to have to play at the level we all know he can. So far this season, he is eighth in goals saved above expected with 9.7 via MoneyPuck.
Shesterkin has been consistently good this season but has yet to truly take over a game this season. If the Rangers leave the Lenovo Center with a win, it'll have to be because Igor Shesterkin had an elite performance.
Enjoy the game!
