Game #30: New York Rangers vs Los Angeles Kings Open Thread

After starting their west coast road trip with a bang on Sunday night, the Rangers are set to meet an old nemesis at the Staples Center tonight. In a rematch of the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, the Los Angeles Kings will welcome the Blueshirts back into the building that saw them beat New York in overtime three separate games en route to a Stanley Cup title.

Both teams have fallen far from grace since Alec Martinez’s double overtime Stanley Cup winning goal on June 13, 2014. Both teams are mired in rebuilds, and while the Rangers appear to be on the upswing, the same can’t be said for the Kings. After finishing dead last in the Western Conference and 30th overall last season, Los Angeles is once again lurking among the bottom feeders of the league. Dead last in the West once again, and 29th in the league wide standings. it appears that the Kings’ days as NHL royalty are long gone.

Player to Watch: Marc Staal

Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 EST, which means this game won’t end until at least 1:00 A.M. tomorrow morning. If you live on the east coast and you’re staying up to watch this game, it probably means you’re a masochist. Keeping a close eye on Marc Staal sounds about right for that.

Enjoy the game!
