Game #37: Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After three days off to enjoy the Christmas holiday, NHL hockey is set to begin again around the league, and the Rangers are one of the 22 teams scheduled to resume their season tonight. After welcoming the Carolina Hurricanes into Madison Square Garden back on November 27th, the Blueshirts are set to do so once again tonight, and they’ll be looking for a repeat of the 3-2 victory the had one month ago.

David Quinn’s squad entered the break on a sour note, as they were blown out by Alain Vigneault’s Philadelphia Flyers 5-1. Former Ranger Kevin Hayes scored two goals for his new team, and the Blueshirts will look to wash the taste of defeat out of their mouths with a strong effort tonight.

Player to Watch: Marc Staal

As Jordan Staal captains the visiting team, his brother Marc will once again serve as an alternate captain for the home team. As the elder statesman on New York’s blue line, Marc Staal will play his game and lead by example, just as he does each and every night he draws into the lineup. Injuries and healthy scratches have limited him to 20 of the team’s previous 36 games, but playing against his brother could give him some extra motivation. Keep an eye on #18 in blue tonight.

Enjoy the game!
