Game #41: New York Rangers vs New York Islanders Open Thread

Following their victory over the Islanders two nights ago, the Rangers will look to complete the sweep in this two game set against their divisional rivals. Alexandar Georgiev was sharp in his first game action in three weeks, but he’ll be ceding the net to Igor Shesterkin as the Blueshirts look to eanr another victory against Barry Trotz’s squad. Meanwhile, David Quinn’s band of playoff hopefuls are in desperate need of the two points at stake tonight.

While tonight’s game would mark the halfway point of a normal season, the Blueshirts will be nearly 75% done with their regular season schedule following tonight’s action. Alternatively, the second weekend of April is normally the final week of the regular season in non-COVID seasons.

Player to Watch: Brett Howden

Today is the Rangers’ 41st game of the season. Jed Ortmeyer was the last forward to wear #41 for the team. Similar to Ortmeyer, Brett Howden is a 4th liner that’s not particularly good and probably shouldn’t be in the NHL. Unlike Ortmeyer, Howden hasn’t established himself as a fan favorite in Rangerstown quite yet, but there’s time enough for Howden to turn that around. A strong effort against the Islanders will go a long way towards endearing himself to the Blueshirts’ faithful, so keep an eye on Howden tonight.
