Game #64: New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers Open Thread

Following last night’s come from behind victory in Montreal, the Rangers are back on the road in the city of brotherly love. David Quinn’s squad will look to extend its franchise record of nine consecutive road wins to ten against Kevin Hayes, Claude Giroux, and the rest of the Philadelphia Flyers. A scheduling quirk has resulting in these two Metropolitan Division rivals only meeting once thus far, but the Rangers are set to play Alain Vigneault’s squad tonight and Sunday afternoon, leaving plenty of opportunity to get re-acquainted.

The Blueshirts’ current 9-1-0 run has pushed them to within two points of a Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. If they do their job, as well as get the help they need in the form of losses by Carolina and Columbus, New York will end the night officially in a playoff position.

Player to Watch: Artemiy Panarin

As would be expected, Panarin has been one of the driving forces behind the Rangers’ hot streak as of late. The superstar winger is currently riding an 11 game point streak dating back to February 7th, and has posted a 5-11-16 stat line during that point steak. Panarin has also recorded multiple points in four consecutive games, but was held in check during New York’s 5-1 loss in Philadelphia back on December 23rd. As he goes, so does his team, so look for the Flyers’ ability to contain him to be a deciding factor in tonight’s contest.

Enjoy the game! I’ll be in Binghamton watching the Wolfpack play the Baby Devils.
