Game Thread 2/7: You Can Play Night

The Rangers are expected to have Kevin Hayes back in the lineup tonight and Marc Staal on the blue line. Which means that tonight’s game will be the first game this year that the Rangers are 100 percent healthy.

The newly healthy Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks tonight at the Garden. The Ducks are 11-10-7 on the road and 5-3-2 in their last ten games. They’re on the third game of a season-long six game road streak that has not gotten off to a great start.

John Gibson will be in net tonight for the Ducks across the ice from Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers come into tonight’s game on a two-game winning streak and with a record of 15-11-1 at home ice.

Here is the Rangers’ projected lineup for tonight with Hayes and Staal in:

Jimmy Vesey-Derek Stepan-Rick Nash

Chris Kreider-Mika Zibanejad-Mats Zuccarello

J.T. Miller-Kevin Hayes-Michael Grabner

Pavel Buchnevich-Oscar Lindberg-Jesper Fast

Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi

Marc Staal-Nick Holden

Brady Skjei-Kevin Klein

Tonight, of course, is the Rangers’ You Can Play Night as part of the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone Month. Mats Zuccarello is the Rangers’ YCP Player Ambassador.

Rangers players will have Pride Tape on their sticks during warm-ups and the Garden will have rainbow lighting tonight as the Rangers host the Ducks.

The New York Rangers and the You Can Play Project are teaming up on February 7th vs. the Anaheim Ducks to spread the message of acceptance and respect within the hockey community.

You Can Play is an  organization dedicated to the safety and inclusion of all participants  across the world of sports, including LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and fans.  Their mission is to create a culture change where locker rooms and  spectator areas focus on athletic ability, work ethic, and team spirit,  not sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

  • “For You Can Play Night, rainbow lighting will brighten up The Garden for the game, and a special table will be set up at Section 113/114 where fans can talk to a representative and learn more about the organization and their initiatives.”
  • “Our Blueshirts will be wrapping warm up sticks in rainbow Pride Tape and  making them available for auction through Steiner Sports beginning on  February 7th thru February 14th. 100% of the auction’s proceeds will  benefit the You Can Play Project.”/
