Game Thread: Rangers vs Capitals

It’s time for some afternoon hockey

This afternoon the New York Rangers will be on the road for a 12:30 p.m. game in the nation’s capital.

The Rangers are coming off of a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens at the Garden on Friday that featured Brendan Lemieux’s first goal as a Blueshirt. Meanwhile, the Washington Capitals are coming off of a big 3-1 win over the New York Islanders from Friday night.

Washington is currently in second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Caps are 19-9-2 on home this season and are 7-3-0 in their last ten games. Of course, the player to watch on the Capitals is Alex Ovechkin. Ovi already has 45 goals in just 65 games this year. He leads the reigning Stanley Cup Champions in goals, power play goals, points, and shots. This year he’s scored three goals in three games against the Rangers.

The last time these two teams crossed sticks, the Capitals won in a thrilling overtime after both teams put up five goals in regulation. Will we see the same kind of fireworks today? Well, we’re about to find out.

Please use this as your open thread for today’s game.
