Girardi Reportedly Could be Protected from Expansion Draft
Welp.
Some NTC/NMC updates... first off:

Dan Girardi (#NYR) NMC includes all years of his deal.https://t.co/wEFoYIViAL pic.twitter.com/ahegFHqYxs
As of this moment only General Fanager is reporting that this is the case with Dan Girardi’s contract, but they tend to know what they’re talking about. If this is the case, it could be very bad news for the Rangers and the hopes of parting ways with Girardi through the expansion draft.
This could mean that Girardi will likely be “auto-protected” for the anticipated expansion draft for the Las Vegas franchise and it also means that he cannot be buried in the AHL without his consent. The only thing that might prevent this from happening is the fact that Girardi has a “modified” no movement clause. Blueshirt Banter's HockeyStatMiner outlined what this means and what we need to be watching for on twitter.
Wow so the Rangers potentially pioneered for the first ever "modified NMC" that I'm aware of in that Girardi contract? Classic NYR.

6 days until #NHL discloses the official expansion draft rules. Interested to see how a 'modified/partial No-Movement Clause' factors in.

NMCs where a player "may" submit a list of teams to be traded to is not new. But when a player "must" submit such a list is new to me.

Does your head hurt yet?
Girardi MIGHT have to submit a list of fifteen teams that he will accept a trade to on July 1st, 2017, but the complete details of his contract are known only to the Rangers’ front office at this time. The date of July 1st, 2017 is important because that is when the full NMC in his contract expires. The fact that he has this modified NMC is the only thing that might leave him exposed and not “auto-protected” for the expansion draft.
In other words, it is likely the end of days for Rangers fans.
Get to your grocery store, start stocking up on canned food and batteries, and fill your bath tubs with water... the only escape from Girardi and his contract might be a buyout.
If it makes anyone feel any better, the Hurricanes re-signed Cam Ward today for two years at an AAV of $3.3 million and gave him a no-trade clause. So there’s that. Hold me.
