Henrik Lundqvist named NHL’s second star of the week
The Rangers have two extremely good goalies. What a time to be alive.
First, there was Antti Raanta, and he stopped a lot of pucks. And lo, there was much rejoicing, and maybe some cries of, “But what about Henrik?”
And then, there was Henrik Lundqvist, and he, too, stopped a lot of pucks, and the rejoicing continued, for the New York Rangers’ goaltending had allowed six goals in its past seven games.
Lundqvist is the latest one to pick up the torch, winning all three of his starts this past week and surrendering just three goals on 90 shots for a .967 save percentage and a shutout he should have had but does not thanks to a suspended player. His two latest wins came in the shootout, too, making for even more pucks he has had to stop.
Even more special: his most recent win over the New Jersey Devils sees him tie Dominik Hasek for 12th all time in goaltender wins, and first all time for European-born goalies.

And you KNOW he’s not done yet.
Lundqvist has a .920 save percentage in 24 games so far this season. His career average is .921. He’s played just over 709 games, and the 34-year-old is still rolling.
