Igor Shesterkin Re-Signs With the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers and RFA goaltender Igor Shesterkin have agreed on a 4-year contract extension which was announced by the team this afternoon.

While the team did not announce the details of the agreement, Frank Seravalli reported that the deal is set at 4 years, $22.666 million in total which comes out to a $5.65 million AAV.

This contract buys out two of Igor’s RFA years and two of his UFA years, keeping the Russian netminder in Manhattan for at least the next four years. Last season, Shesterkin appeared in 35 games, with 16 wins and a .916 Sv% and for his short NHL career, Igor has 26 wins and a .921 Sv%.

While Shesterkin’s extension is a record-setter as the largest 2nd contract ever handed out to an NHL goalie, the Russian goalie’s body of work so far more than stands up for itself and falls well within the salary he agreed to.
