Jimmy Vesey, the Rangers’ fastest-scoring rookie
Well, in about 16 years, at least.
The biggest college free agent of the offseason, Jimmy Vesey, could have gone anywhere, and he chose to come to the New York Rangers. Now, he has three goals in five games for the Blueshirts, so you could say things are going well.
Especially when two of those three goals came in the Rangers’ latest battle against the Washington Capitals. The first tied the game, the second took the lead, and then his team never looked back.
And just three minutes apart, at that: that’s awesome. And quick. In fact, via the Elias Sports Bureau:
They were the fastest two goals in one game by a Rangers rookie since the 1999-2000 season, when Jan Hlavac scored twice in less than three minutes three separate times (2:29, 0:50 and 2:27).
Hlavac finished that season with 19 goals and 42 points. Here’s to Vesey continuing to channel him, because those are some fine totals - and he’s already off to a great start.
