Matt Beleskey clears waivers

On the mend, off the waiver wire, and on the bus to Hartford

Veteran winger Matt Beleskey cleared waivers today, which means that he will join the 4-4-1 Hartford Wolf Pack.

As Shayna mentioned yesterday when Beleskey hit the waiver wire, the New York Rangers acquired him in the trade that sent Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins before last year’s trade deadline. The Bruins retained 50 percent of Beleskey’s $3.8 million cap hit as part of the terms of that deal. Now that Beleskey has cleared waivers and is buried in the minors, he will carry a reduced cap hit of $875,000 for the Rangers. He is signed through the 2020-21 season.

Since being acquired from the Bruins, Beleskey has appeared in one regular season game with the Rangers and has scored six points — only one of which was a goal — in 14 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Hartford’s next game is on Oct. 27 against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
