The NHL Department of Player Safety has suspended Matt Rempe 4 games.

The DoPS found that Rempe’s decision to flare his elbow up and in a dangerous fashion into Siegenthaler, as well as the injury on the play, played a role in the suspension.

Rempe’s final two shifts of the game inherently showed the two extremes of what he can bring to the table, and how he needs to find a balance between the two of them to stay in this league and have a positive impact.

He did all the right things getting to the front of the net and providing a screen which led  to a goal, and on the following shift while still riding that high he got Siegenthaler with an elbow.

Rempe can be a physical player, but he can’t be reckless. He needs to take into account that at 6’8″ he is going to tower over most players, and be careful when making contact. Last night’s elbow was dumb, and sitting for the next 4 games certainly will provide him an opportunity to reflect and understand what he can and can’t do when he’s on the ice.
