Kuch Me If You Can

1. During an appearance on DFO Insider late last week, David Pagnotta floated the Rangers as a potential landing spot for Nikita Kucherov, even speculating that ownership could push president and general manager Chris Drury to pursue a deal.

In case you've been living under a rock, Kucherov sent shockwaves through the NHL last Friday when he announced his trade request and made clear his intention not to re-sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the only NHL organization he's played for throughout his career.

"I really do wonder about the Rangers," Pagnotta told listeners. "And whether or not Jimmy Dolan was going to go over to Chris Drury's office and say, go, now, Kucherov, now."

Pagnotta was quick to temper that speculation, acknowledging that he doesn't know whether New York is among Kucherov's preferred destinations. According to CapWages, the star winger carries a modified no-trade clause that allows him to submit a list of 10 teams to which he'd accept a trade.

Pagnotta doubled down on the potential New York connection Monday during an appearance on Leafs Morning Take, telling listeners that he thinks the Rangers "would be all over him, is what I should say."

2. Kucherov, meanwhile, offered some additional clarity on the situation Monday, telling Tampa Bay media that his trade request was "never about the money," but rather about "poor communication and respect." He noted that, over the past four months, he'd had just two conversations with the Lightning regarding his future.

"Julien [BriseBois] made it clear, I'm free to walk on July 1," Kucherov said, making little effort to disguise his frustration with how the situation has unfolded.

Asked whether he could envision a scenario in which he ultimately remains in Tampa Bay, Kucherov left little room for interpretation.

"I've made my request."
