He'll join longtime partner Sam Rosen in moving onto the next chapter -- and much like Sam, Joe is a true gentleman who will be greatly missed.
It's likely Joe has been sitting on this news for some time, but wanted to give Sam the legendary goodbye tour he and his career deserved. That truly showcases the level of class and care he operated with daily. Losing Sam this year was always going to be tough to move on from. Still, many fans found comfort in the idea that whoever replaced him would be sitting alongside Joe Micheletti, but now that's something the Rangers fandom will need to mourn and accept.
Micheletti had a vibrant hockey career. He excelled in the NCAA, playing under legendary coach Herb Brooks for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, and was eventually drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. He chose to play in the WHA and started his professional career with the Calgary Cowboys, but soon found himself playing for the Edmonton Oilers with Wayne Gretzky. He made his way to the NHL, suited up for the St. Louis Blues for several seasons, and even found himself representing the United States of America in international tournaments.
After retiring as a player, Micheletti tried his hand briefly as a coach, but found a natural calling as a commentator. He bopped around the league working for the Blues and the Islanders and even secured gigs with the old network Versus. After John Davidson left the Rangers, Micheletti worked alongside Sam Rosen for nearly twenty years. In that time, Joe also worked multiple Stanley Cup Finals for national broadcasts and even became the father-in-law of Mike Modano.

Micheletti had a sense of authenticity that all will miss. He's worked incredibly hard wherever he's gone in his career and deserves to enjoy his retirement with his family. We'll miss you, Joe; it will now truly be a new era for Rangers fans, and it goes without saying, but it will take some time for all of us to acclimate to the void you're leaving behind.
