New York Rangers Draft Radar October Scouting Report
Before the 2026 NHL Draft even hits the horizon, we’re breaking down three names Rangers fans need to know now: Oscar Holmertz, Caleb Malhotra, and Brooks Rogowski.
It’s never too early to start keeping tabs on the future of the New York Rangers. In addition to a monthly internal scouting report, we’re also going to be taking a look at some of the prospects the Rangers could and should have their sights set on for the 2026 Entry Draft. This month, we’re going to highlight Oscar Homertz, Caleb Malhotra, and Brooks Rogowski.
Oscar Holmertz - Center, Sweden Jr. League
In 13 games to start the season with Linkoping HC Jr., Holmertz has a total of 14 points spread across four goals and 10 assists. At 6-0 and 192 pounds, Holmertz is a really intelligent playmaking center who plays the game with poise and a skill set that will without question become NHL caliber. His efforts through the early parts of this season have been enough to earn him a promotion to the Swedish Elite League. At the time of writing this, he has only suited up in one game with Linkopings HC but those opportunities could certainly increase if he continues to impress.
Holmertz was one of the bright spots for Team Sweden at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup this summer as he collected a total of seven points in five games. He's the type of player that drives play, plays at a high speed and has the potential to finish as well as he sets up scoring chances. Here's a great example from last February where Holmertz was able to poke the puck away from the defender to send himself on a breakaway where he converted on a simple, yet effective move.
That was just one of his three goals that night.
Holmertz is a name to keep in eye on as there's no question that he's one of the most exciting European prospects entering the 2025-26 Draft class. Tankathon has him going 38th overall in their mock draft, but if he continues to impress this season he could easily sneak his way into the first round. Since the Rangers currently have a pair of first rounders, this is a player that should be available to them no matter where those picks land and should absolutely consider selecting.
