New York Rangers Game Thread: 10/12, Leafs at Rangers

The home opener, and it's original six! Beautiful!

Game Three, the Maple Leafs at the Rangers

1-1-0

So... last night wasn't what I had in mind after that big win on Thursday against the Blues. The Rangers fell 5-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets (one goal was an empty netter) and gave Cam Talbot very little help. On the bright side, Rick Nash scored again (3 goals and 1 assist in 2 games), Lee Stempniak got his first goal as a Ranger, and Anthony Duclair got the first and second points of his NHL career. On the down side, the Rangers played one of the worst first periods I have seen them play in a long time and somehow, Tanner Glass kept getting shifts and kept making things worse and worse for the Blueshirts. The Rangers will look to their change their luck tonight against their original six rivals, the Maple Leafs, and win their home opener before they lock horns with the red hot Islanders on October 14th.

Mike's Player to Watch: Derick Brassard

Derick Brassard was given a very nice contract in the offseason and will be making plenty of money wearing Rangers' blue for a long time. In my opinion, he's had a bad two first games to the season and the club really needs him to step up his game and be noticeable with top center Derek Stepan out of the lineup with a broken leg. There are a few Rangers that need to step up, so we shouldn't just single out Derick Brassard, but I am expecting him to get back into the swing of things tonight against the Leafs and get some offense going. The Rangers need him to find his game with Stepan out for an extended period of time.

Let's go Rangers.
