New York Rangers Game Thread: 11/5, Red Wings at Rangers

Game Twelve, the Detroit Red Wings at the New York Rangers

Record: 5-4-2

Red Wings vs Rangers coverage | NYR roster | Winging It In Motown

Getting a point on Monday’s night game might not seem like much of a victory, but it really should be viewed that way. The Rangers played outstanding hockey against a very, very good St. Louis Blues team and, if they had a little bit more puck luck and finish, they easily could (and should) have won that game. A team without Derek Stepan, Mats Zuccarello, Dan Boyle, Ryan McDonagh, Kevin Klein, John Moore, and starting their backup goalie Cam Talbot was inches away (a few times) from coming away with two points. The Rangers faced a stiff challenge and they all answered the bell… and they’re going have to do that again tonight against the Detroit Red Wings and the red hot Pavel Datsyuk.

How good did Ryan Malone, Kevin Hayes, Dan Girardi, and Chris Kreider look against the Blues? Here’s hoping that the Rangers get some more big contributions from all over the roster tonight against the Red Wings in addition to the big boys (Nash and Marty) stepping up and contributing.

Mike’s Player to Watch: Henrik Lundqvist

Lundqvist goes back between the pipes tonight and the Rangers are going to need him to be as good as Cam Talbot was against the Blues. After a slow start to the season, Hank has looked damn sharp lately, including just coming off of a shutout loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Expect the King of New York to give his all against a Red Wings team that should provide a serious challenge for the Rangers and their decimated blue line.

Slowly but surely a few key Rangers are going to start returning to the lineup, but until then the Blueshirts are going to have to lean on guys like Lundqvist and Girardi to get them through this challenging stretch where it feels like half of the roster is wearing suits and watching the game(s) from the press box.

Let’s go Rangers! Enjoy the game and the thread.
