John Moore suspension: Rangers defenseman banned 5 games for high hit

The Department of Player Safety suspended John Moore on Wednesday for an incident from Monday night's game against Minnesota.

It seemed like it was inevitable, and on Wednesday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety made it official. For the high hit he delivered on Erik Haula during Monday night's game against the Wild, John Moore was suspended five games.

At practice on Wednesday, Alain Vigneault indicated the team was ready to move forward without calling up a defenseman, although that remains to be seen now that Moore's suspension is official. The incident was Moore's second in his last 14 games, dating back to last season's Eastern Conference Final when Moore was banned two games for a high hit on Montreal's Dale Weise.

Moore will be eligible to return November 11 against the Penguins. That game also falls 32 days after Dan Boyle's injury, so it could be a stretch in which the Rangers return multiple defensemen, depending of course of Boyle's recovery.
