New York Rangers News: Cam Talbot Signs One-Year Extension
The New York Rangers have retained the services of Cam Talbot for at least another season as both sides agreed to a one-year contract extension.
The New York Rangers will have some extra insurance behind Henrik Lundqvist for at least another season, as Cam Talbot has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract extension. According to the report from Larry Brooks, Cam Talbot's one-year extension will pay him $1.45 million next season, which is a decent pay upgrade from the $562,500 he is currently earning this season.
Talbot was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and probably could have challenged for a starting job on more than a few teams around the league. Since taking over the backup role from Martin Biron early last season, Talbot has provided the Rangers with a reliable backup that is more than capable of taking on a 15-20 game workload. While appearing in 25 career games with the Rangers, Talbot has posted a 14-9-2 record along with a 1.80 GAA, .936 save percentage, and five shutouts.
The Rangers still have quite a bit of work to do on the RFA/UFA front with the contracts of Martin St. Louis, Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, Mats Zuccarello, and Marc Staal all expiring at the end of the season.
