New York Rangers News: Chris Kreider Out Indefinitely Following Hand Surgery
Chris Kreider will be sidelined indefinitely following a successful surgical procedure on his injured hand.
According to an official team release, the New York Rangers have announced that forward Chris Kreider will be sidelined indefinitely, following surgery on his injured hand this afternoon. The team also mentioned that there is no timetable for his return, so I wouldn't count on him be back anytime soon, let alone in time for the playoffs.
Original reports coming from Bob McKenzie had Kreider being out for at least a month, and with the news surfacing today, that timetable seems like a pretty safe bet. Kreider originally injured his hand in the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but continued to play the next three games while dealing with the pain. Pat Leonard mentioned in one of his articles that Kreider could have played through the pain/injury, but it would have risked further damage if he continued to do so.
J.T. Miller filled in for Kreider against the Philadelphia Flyers, and it appears as if he will continue to stick with the team for the rest of the season. Miller will be in a more offensively responsible role, and Joe actually touched on this a bit earlier this morning. This is Miller's first real shot at sticking with the big club, and while he has some big shoes to fill, the advantage is there for the taking. It's now a matter of him stepping up to the plate, or crumbling under the pressure.
