New York Rangers News: Conor Allen Does Not Receive A Qualifying Offer
The New York Rangers sent out qualifying offers to all of their restricted free agents, except for Conor Allen.
With the deadline to qualify restricted free agents coming to close on Monday night, the New York Rangers have sent qualifying offers to eight of their nine RFA's. According to Andrew Gross, the only restricted free agent to not receive a qualfying offer was Conor Allen. As a result, Allen will become an unrestricted free agent come July 1, and is free to negotiate a contract with any team that is interested in his services.
Allen, 25, appeared in seven total NHL games with the Rangers over the past two years, registered a total of four shots on goal, and was a minus two rating. Down in the AHL last season with the Hartford Wolfpack, Allen totaled 11 goals, 23 assists, and 34 points in 72 regular season games. Allen joined the Rangers on March 29, 2013 after he signed as a college free agent out of UMass-Amherst.
It is very interesting to see Allen go unqualified, but as it stands right now, the left defensive position is more than clogged up for the Rangers. It is unfortunate that the Rangers couldn't provide him with the right opportunity, and I'm sure it won't take Allen long to find a new landing spot.
Derek Stepan, J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast, Emerson Etem, Dylan McIlrath, Oscar Lindberg, Marek Hrivik, and Mat Bodie were the other eight RFA's to receive their qualifying offers.
