New York Rangers News: Henrik Lundqvist Medically Cleared To Practice

Henrik Lundqvist appears to be 100% healthy, and has been medically cleared by doctors to return to practice with the team.

The King is on his way back.

The New York Rangers announced this afternoon that goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has been medically cleared by doctors, and has the go-ahead to return to practice with the team. This is obviously great news for not only the Rangers, but Lundqvist as well. This clearance means that Lundqvist is likely 100% healed from his damaged blood vessel, and can finally put this scary incident behind him.

Lundqvist was originally injured during the game on January 31 against the Carolina Hurricanes, and miraculously suited up for the following game against the Florida Panthers. It wasn't until after February 2 that Lundqvist was officially diagnosed with the vascular injury. Even though he has been sidelined, Lundqvist has been skating for the past several weeks, but he was not allowed to take any shots above the waist.

Alain Vigneault had previously mentioned that Lundqvist's workouts began to pickup as of late, so once he gets some full practices under his belt, he should be able to return shortly thereafter. However, the Rangers are not scheduled to have a morning skate tomorrow before taking on the Chicago Blackhawks, and also have a scheduled off day on Thursday. So, the first official practice day for Lundqvist will likely be on Friday, prior to the weekend back-to-back with the Carolina Hurricanes and Anaheim Ducks.

During the 20 game absence of Lundqvist, the Rangers have posted an impressive 15-2-3 record, largely thanks to Cam Talbot's incredible 13-2-3 record during that stretch. Mackenzie Skapski has also provided the Rangers with solid depth in goal, despite only seeing two games against the Buffalo Sabres.

The playoffs are right around the corner, and Lundqvist is on his way back. Today is a good day.
