New York Rangers News: Rangers Agree To Terms With Magnus Hellberg

The New York Rangers signed their first restricted free agent of the summer by agreeing to terms with Magnus Hellberg.

Since the 2015 NHL Draft hype has cooled and the free agent frenzy flew by, it has been a quiet week for the New York Rangers. However, today, the Rangers announced that they have agreed to terms with goaltender Magnus Hellberg on a new contract. The terms of the contract were not immediately released by the team, so we will provide an update once the details are made available.

Hellberg, 24, was originally acquired by the Rangers on July 1 in exchange for a 6th-round draft pick in 2017. With Mackenzie Skapski sidelined until at least November, the Rangers needed some additional goaltending depth in the AHL, and Hellberg fits that mold. Hellberg was a former 2nd-round draft pick of the Nashville Predators, but didn't stick with an abundance of prospects ahead of him on the depth chart.

Now that Hellberg is officially under contract, the Hartford Wolf Pack will march into next season with a starting duo of Hellberg and Cedrick Desjardins until Skapski is healthy.

Additional goaltending depth is never a bad thing to have. Thoughts on this?
