New York Rangers News: Rangers, Malone Agree On Two-Way Deal
The New York Rangers have added one final piece to the offseason puzzle by signing UFA Ryan Malone to a two-way deal.
According to Larry Brooks of the NY Post, the New York Rangers have added Ryan Malone on a two-way deal that will pay him around $700,000 at the NHL level. This news comes a few days after Malone joined the Rangers at their informal skates at the MSG training center.
The Rangers have done "extensive" homework on Malone over the summer, and have apparently seen enough potential to offer him a contract. At the end of the day, this move only provides the Rangers with further bottom-six depth, assuming Malone makes the team, and is pretty much a win-win. His salary is also right in the ballpark with other depth guys competing for spots, so salary wise, he's more or less interchangeable.
In terms of the contract limit, Malone's deal now maxes the Rangers out at 50 and gives them zero wiggle room for any further roster additions. Anthony Duclair will not count against the limit if he is returned to the QMJHL next season, but if he makes the team out of camp, the Rangers will need to move a body to become compliant.
