New York Rangers News: Rangers Sign Benoit Pouliot To A One-Year Deal

According to an official team release, the New York Rangers have signed Benoit Pouliot to a one-year deal that will pay him $1.3 million. It's yet another depth move for the Rangers as they continue to round out their bottom-six, and find likely replacements for Darroll Powe, and Arron Asham. It's also fair to say that Pouliot will likely be on the roster come opening day, and won't be an extra, especially not at $1.3 million.

While the Rangers haven't made any big time splashes today, they have secretly been improving their bottom-six quite a bit. Pouliot has some speed to his game, and will likely flourish in Alain Vigneault's puck possession game. He also won't be relied on as heavily to compete in the top-six, something he's had to do on prior teams.

It's also a slight upgrade from what the Rangers previously had in Asham and Powe in regards to speed and skill. Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin aren't a lock to be healthy from day one, so all of these depth signings will come in handy in the event that they aren't.

With Pouliot on board now, the Rangers are starting to shave away their cap space with Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, and Mats Zuccarello all left to re-sign. You'd have to assume they have something in the works to deal off some salary. Who knows.
