New York Rangers News: Roster For First Preseason Game Announced; Staal, Sauer and Hagelin Update

Hey guys, as you know tomorrow the big boys head up to Albany to play their first preseason game against the Devils and a little while ago the Ranger beat writers have been tweeting the roster for the game.

FORWARDS:

Brandon Dubinsky, Sean Avery , Artem Anisimov, Carl Hagelin, Erik Christensen, Christian Thomas, Dale Weise, Ryan Bourque, John Mitchell, Andre Deveaux.

DEFENSEMEN:

Michael Del Zotto, Dylan McIlrath, Dan Girardi, Brendan Bell, Steve Eminger, Tim Erixon

GOALTENDING:

Henrik Lundqvist, Cam Talbot

Kind of surprised Henrik is making the trip seeing as how he played an entire scrimmage game today but after the jump an update on all things Marc Staal, Mike Sauer and some analysis of Carl Hagelin.

To start things off, John Tortorella stated that nothing should be holding back Mike Sauer from playing in preseason. Sauer suffered from tendinitis a couple days back, and was sidelined for the time being. Both Staal and Sauer were on the ice following workouts, and both looked fine.

Marc Staal was sent home yesterday after "not feeling well", but that seemed to change over night. Staal also skated without any problems, but the Rangers will most likely give him a lot of rest leading up to the season opener.

Tortorella also stated yesterday that they would like to infuse more youth into the lineup during the season. He noted that Carl Hagelin was one of the six players that they would take an extended look at, during preseason. Tortorella was very impressed with Hagelin's speed and skating ability, which is what earned him an extra look.

The other five most likely being, Ryan Bourque, Christian Thomas, Dylan McIlrath, Tim Erixon, and Brandon Bell. All of which will be on display for the first preseason games. The Rangers will be making their first cuts on Friday night, following the conclusion of the second game against New Jersey.

We will have an open game thread going up at 6:30 tomorrow evening. Be sure to be there!
