New York Rangers News: Social Media Participation During Traverse City Tournament

The New York Rangers announced today that they will allow fans to participate during the telecasts of the the Traverse City tournament on MSG. Viewers will also have never-before-seen access to the team, coaches and executives during the five day tournament.

Starting today, fans will have the opportunity to get involved amongst the discussions with play-by-play commentator John Giannone and Rangers reporter Dave Maloney. Both can be followed on twitter at @jaygeeMSG and @DaveMaloneyMSG. Giannone, Maloney and Micheletti will turn to twitter for questions and input from fans, in which they can respond and interact with during the action.

Select players will also be wearing microphones during their games. As well as, following the team into the locker room for pre-game and intermission talks and strategies.

Viewers to Have Unprecedented Access to the Rink and Locker Rooms

New York, NY – September 8, 2011 – MSG Network will offer Rangers fans an opportunity to take part – via Twitter – in the telecasts of four Rangers games from the 2011 Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament, which runs from September 10-14 in Traverse City, Michigan. Viewers will also have never-before-seen access to the team, coaches and executives during the five day competition.

Starting today, MSG Network’s Traverse City play-by-play man John Giannone (@jaygeeMSG) and reporter Dave Maloney (@DaveMaloneyMSG) will call on fans to join their conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #NYRprospects. Giannone and Maloney, along with color commentator Joe Micheletti, will turn to Twitter for questions and remarks from viewers, which they can respond to and comment on during the action starting Saturday. The former Rangers captain will also use Twitter as the source of his questions as he talks to players benchside throughout the game, as well as for reports and interviews during intermissions.

MSG Network viewers will have unlimited access to the players, coaches and executives at the tournament. A number of players will wear wireless microphones during the games and cameras will follow the Rangers’ prospect team coach, Ken Gernander, into the locker room for pregame and intermission talks.

The 2011 Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament includes eight teams from the NHL, split into two divisions: the Gretzky Division (New York Rangers, St. Louis, Dallas, Carolina) and the Howe Division (Detroit, Buffalo, Columbus, Minnesota). Each team will face its division opponents once in the opening round and the final day will feature the top seeds in the Championship Game, as well as the remaining teams in the third, fifth and seventh place games, based on their records.

2011 marks the 14th year of the Traverse City NHL Prospects Tournament, which has previously featured current Rangers players, including Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, Ryan McDonagh, Michael Sauer, Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan and Derek Stepan.
