New York Rangers October Prospect Pipeline Scouting Report
The first installment of our Scouting Report series checks in on Brody Lamb, Nathan Aspinall, and Malcolm Spence—three Rangers prospects off to impressive starts.

At the start of the season, we took a look at each of the New York Rangers’ sixteen unsigned prospects, noting where they will be playing this season and what to expect from them throughout the year. As part of a follow up to that preview, we’re going to be keeping tabs on those players in a new Scouting Report series. Each month, we’ll highlight three prospects in the Rangers' system with updates on how their season is going.
This month, we’re going to look at Brody Lamb, Nathan Aspinall and Malcolm Spence.
Brody Lamb - Forward, University of Minnesota
As previously noted, I am a University of Minnesota fan for college hockey so naturally I have to start with Brody Lamb. I wrote more in depth about his start to the season and the role he could play for the Rangers down the road but he has continued to build off that strong start and has been really impressive through the early stretch of the season. In eight games played, Lamb has four goals and three assists for a total of seven points. Prior to Minnesota's back-to-back losses to Minnesota-Duluth this past weekend, Lamb was producing at over a point-per-game pace, which should certainly be a goal of his in his senior season.
Lamb had the lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Boston College at the start of the month (where fellow Rangers prospect Drew Fortescue picked up an empty net goal) as he did a great job of shooting the puck through traffic to find the back of the net. The way he calls for the pass, uses the time and space he had to take the puck straight to the net and fire a shot home is the exact type of offense the Rangers need to have more of.
In their second of two outings against North Dakota, Lamb had a really pretty fake shot feed to Tanner Ludtke who was wide open at the doorstep to open the scoring on the power play. The way Lamb approached the play, indicating the impression of a shot just to send a laser pass down low was an outstanding example of his hockey IQ—just a really smart, highly skilled play. That would be the first of three points from Lamb as he picked up an assist on Max Rud’s goal and netted his own off a nice feed from Beckett Hendrickson in the third period.
It's been a tough start for the Gophers this season however Lamb leads the team in both points and goals at the time of writing this.
