Rangers place Marek Hrivik on waivers

The Rangers are getting healthy again. Pavel Buchnevich played in Friday’s game at Madison Square Garden and Rick Nash is back in the lineup and scoring goals. And there is a chance that Mika Zibanejad could play in Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars.

The return of those forwards means that the Rangers are carrying too many bodies. Someone had to be put on waivers and sent down to the AHL. And today we learned that someone was Marek Hrivik.

Hrivik had two assists in his 16 games with the Rangers. But more importantly, he had outstanding possession stats skating on New York’s fourth line. The 25-year-old might soon be skating for another team after six years in the Rangers’ organization. There’s no doubt that he has what it takes to play in the bottom-six at the NHL level.

Another bit of news: there is no update on goaltender Antti Raanta’s injury. He left last night’s game against the Canadiens in Montreal with a lower-body injury.
