Rangers vs Flyers: Georgiev, Rangers Shut Out Flyers in Philadelphia

The New York Rangers won their second straight game this afternoon as they shut out the Flyers 3-0 in Philadelphia. Alexandar Georgiev had another outstanding start in between the pipes, and turned away all 22 shots he faced. Pavel Buchnevich and Ryan Strome also continued their scoring ways as each of them registered their 20th and 18th goals of the season, respectively.

1-0 Rangers
Pavel Buchnevich (20) - Mika Zibanejad (42) & Chris Kreider (24) - 16:25 1st Period

Despite controlling a good portion of the first period, it wasn’t until the 16:25 mark that the Rangers would finally be rewarded. Mika Zibanejad made an excellent centering feed out to Buchnevich, who made a hesitation move, and ripped home his 20th goal of the season. The Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, and Pavel Buchnevich line has been absolutely lights out since being reunited by coach David Quinn, and they were great again this afternoon.

2-0 Rangers
Ryan Strome (18) - Brett Howden (16) & Brendan Smith (8) - 19:57 1st Period

With less than three seconds remaining in the first period, Ryan Strome doubled up the Rangers lead heading into the first intermission. Brendan Smith created the scoring chance with a great stretch pass to Brett Howden, and created a 2-on-1 rush. Howden immediately fed the puck to Strome on the far side, and he sniped Carter Hart on the glove side.

3-0 Rangers
Brady Skjei (7) - Ryan Strome (15) & Brett Howden (17) - 7:39 3rd Period

The Rangers finally closed out the scoring near the midway point of the third period as Brady Skjei scored on a fortunate bounce in front. Ryan Strome did an excellent job of drawing two Flyer players to him, and dished a pass to Brady Skjei cutting into the offensive zone. Skjei’s wrist shot wound up taking two deflections on its way to the net, before redirecting off of Travis Sanheim’s chest and in behind Carter Hart.

Following the Rangers’ second straight win, they will be right back in action tomorrow night as they visit the New Jersey Devils.
