New York Rangers news: Cuts made as roster trimmed to 43

The Rangers made their first round of camp cuts on Wednesday, trimming 20 players from the roster.

It's been a busy day for New York Rangers news on Wednesday, and the team kept the updates coming as it announced 20 players were reassigned from the training camp roster, trimming the group in camp down to 43.

From Blueshirts United:

Twelve of those players will report to Hartford's training camp: Troy Donnay, Michael Kantor, Nickolas Latta, Paxton Leroux, Chris McCarthy, Richard Nejezchleb, Logan Nelson, Josh Nicholls, Sam Noreau, Mackenzie Skapski, Michael St. Croix, and Andrew Yogan.

Six players will report to their Junior teams: Ryan Graves, Brandon Halverson, Keegan Iverson, Ryan Mantha, Adam Tambellini, and Daniel Walcott.

Two players were released from their tryout agreements: Nathan Burns and Dallas Valentine.

The Rangers have 43 players remaining in training camp. The roster breakdown is listed below:

Forwards (25): Chris Bourque, Ryan Bourque, Derick Brassard, Anthony Duclair, Jesper Fast, Tanner Glass, Carl Hagelin, Ryan Haggerty, Kevin Hayes, Marek Hrivik, Chris Kreider, Danny Kristo, Oscar Lindberg, Matthew Lombardi, Ryan Malone, J.T. Miller, Dominic Moore, Chris Mueller, Rick Nash, Ryan Potulny, Martin St. Louis, Lee Stempniak, Derek Stepan, Nick Tarnasky, Mats Zuccarello

Defensemen (14): Conor Allen, Mat Bodie, Dan Boyle, Dan Girardi, Tommy Hughes, Matt Hunwick, Steven Kampfer, Kevin Klein, Michael Kostka, Ryan McDonagh, Dylan McIlrath, John Moore, Marc Staal, Petr Zamorsky

Goaltenders (4): Cedrick Desjardins, Henrik Lundqvist, Jason Missiaen, Cam Talbot

There were no major surprises among the group reassigned, nor the group still fighting for spots. Even with players like Duclair, Haggerty, and other skill guys with more of an outside shot of making the NHL club, it was unlikely they'd be cut so early into the process. Both of those players (Haggerty and Duclair) will get their first crack at a preseason game this Friday in Chicago.
