Official: Rangers Agree to Two Year Contract With Brendan Lemieux

While the Rangers and Brendan Lemieux appeared to be headed for an arbitration hearing this morning to decide his next contract, that process won’t be necessary. Larry Brooks has reported that team has agreed on a two year, $3.1 million contract with their pesky forward, and the Blueshirts confirmed the news shortly thereafter:

As with most arbitration eligible RFA’s, the two parties met in the middle of their arbitration requests. Lemieux was looking for $2 million per year, the Rangers sought an average annual value of roughly $1.01 on a two year contract. After making $925,000 after accepting his qualifying offer last season, Lemieux will be receiving approximately a 50% pay raise.

Lemieux scored six goals and tallied 12 assists last season, and signing Lemieux represents the final restricted free agent situation the Rangers had to resolve of the offseason. With their roster largely set and not much cap room left to make any big moves, expect the Rangers’ current roster to be the one the bring to training camp when the 2020-21 campign kicks off.
