New York Rangers Training Camp: White Vs. Blue Scrimmage Recap

The New York Rangers had their Blue vs. White scrimmage on Sunday, and aired the scrimmage on MSG so fans could watch. It gave us all a closer look at a lot of the players fighting for a spot with the big club. Let's take a look at some of the things that happened:

- Brian Boyle scored the only goal in the first two periods. I mention the first two periods because the third period was continuous power plays rotating from one team to the next. Boyle also had another goal in the third (which was obviously a power play goal) off a brilliant feed from Danny Kristo.

- Since we're on the topic of Kristo: He's shown off his vision and passing ability since Traverse city. He did some nice things in the scrimmage too, highlighted by the assist on Boyle's second goal.

- Chris Kreider was all over the ice, and spent a majority of his time in front of the net. He looked really good there, too. He was paired with Rick Nash for most of the night -- and while I don't like to talk about chemistry this early in the season the two looked really good together. Kreider also scored a really pretty goal in the shootout.

- Derick Brassard was one of the better players from start to finish. He looked really good during the regular scrimmage and was a puck-movement monster on the power play. He was easily one of the best players on the ice for the Rangers Sunday.

- Another player who stood out? Oscar Lindberg. He scored a beautiful -- seriously, it was a perfect shot -- goal off a nice pass from Jesper Fast in the third period. Lindberg also scored a pretty goal in the shootout. I'd be a little surprised if he didn't make the team out of camp. Everyone is talking about how well he's played since Traverse City, and his play carried over to Sunday's scrimmage.

- Benoit Pouliot scored a power play goal for the Blue Team. He poked it home after a Ryan McDonagh shot. Brassard also got an assist on the goal.

Other players who stood out?

- Mats Zuccarello looked good from start to finish.

- Brad Richards had his moments, but looked better overall than he did last year.

- Henrik Lundqvist was incredible all game (although he only played one and a half periods), but he flashed the glove, a lot.

- John Moore looked fantastic at the point. Alain Vigneault also sung Moore's praises after the scrimmage was over. He looked really comfortable on the power play and hit the crossbar, too.

- Michael Del Zotto was moving the puck well, too. Go ahead and flip out.

As whole the Rangers moved the puck much better. Both on the power play and at even strength. I saw the defenseman jumping up to join the rush a lot more and the team already looks like they've embraced the offensive mindset from Vigneault.
