Riveters Pick First in Tomorrow’s 2016 NWHL Draft
The second NWHL Draft will take place tomorrow and the Riveters will have the first overall pick. A year ago the Riveters had the first overall pick in the 2015 Draft and Dani Rylan selected Alex Carpenter. New York eventually traded Carpenter’s rights to the Pride for Harvard forward Miye D’Oench and cap space.
Who the Riveters take in the first round and then at the top of the second round will be something to keep a close eye on. With so much investment and talent on the revamped blue line, it would not be surprising to see the Riveters go for Dani Cameranesi from Minnesota. Selecting a college teammate of the current face of the franchise Amanda Kessel seems like a logical way to go.
With that being said, picking Team USA standout and Minnesota co-captain Lee Stecklein would be pretty nice too.
Note: Players selected in the 2016 NWHL Draft in Brooklyn will not be eligible for the 2016-17 NWHL season. All players must complete their college eligibility first.

The Draft is five rounds long, with four players per round. This year's
order was decided by team season record, resulting in a linear sequence
of New York, Buffalo, Connecticut, and Boston.
Having the worst record in the NWHL’s inaugural season may have tested the dedication and enthusiasm of the Riveters’ fanbase, but it has also earned New York the first overall pick for the second straight year.
