Game #11: New York Islanders vs New York Rangers Open Thread

After an extended break due to having Saturday night’s game against New Jersey postponed, the Rangers are back in action tonight against the New York Islanders. Saturday’s postponement means that the Blueshirts now find themselves in the middle of an eight game homestand. After earning five out of a possible six points during the first three games, David Quinn’s squad will look to keep their momentum rolling against Barry Trotz’s Islanders.

These two teams opened the season with a two game set at Madison Square Garden. The Islanders dominated on opening night to the tune of a 4-0 victory, and the Rangers responded with a 5-0 victory two nights later to even up the season series. Tonight’s game will be the final matchup with the Islanders until April.

Player to Watch: Julien Gauthier

After watching a couple of games from the press box, injuries up front have resulted in Gauthier working his way back into the lineup. In spite of going pointless through five games thus far, the Rangers have high hopes for last season’s trade deadline acquisition from the Carolina Hurricanes. Much like last night, look for #12 to make some plays and help his team win.

Enjoy the game!
