NHL News: Jussi Jokinen And Kaspars Daugavins Placed On Waivers
The Carolina Hurricanes have placed Jussi Jokinen on waivers, and the Ottawa Senators have also placed Kaspars Daugavins on waivers as well.
There was definitely some interesting news surrounding the waiver wire today, as the Carolina Hurricanes placed Jussi Jokinen on waivers, and the Ottawa Senators also placed Kaspars Daugavins on waivers as well. The Rangers depth has been a major issue this year, as they are struggling to get offensive production out of their bottom six. Would any of these two players help out of the Rangers depth issues?
If you take a look at both of these players at face value, both bring a solid addition to the Rangers bottom six, but cap hit may be the deciding factor, in the event the Rangers take a stab at either of these two. Jussi Jokinen currently has two years left on his contract (this year + next year), which carries a cap hit of $3 million. It's a bit of a hefty price, considering the Rangers are a little bit light on cap space this season, but with some rosters moves, they could potentially make it work. Players like Brian Boyle, and Taylor Pyatt have taken massive criticism all year, and they have been mediocre at best throughout this season. The Rangers are still in the running to make a deal at the deadline, whether it be shedding some dead weight, or taking on some extra depth.
As for Daugavins, if the Rangers do plan on making a claim, he would obviously be the better option, price wise. Daugavins is only under contract for the rest of this season, with a cap hit of just $635,000. He doesn't necessarily bring as much to the table as Jokinen would, but he's a cheaper option that could add some skill to the bottom six.
Again, I'm not Glen Sather, so neither of these moves could even be considered by the Rangers. But with the deadline coming up next week, why not take a look at all of the options on the table?
