NHL Playoffs: Official Blueshirt Banter Prediction Thread/ Wednesday Night Open Thread

It’s finally here boys and girls and everything in between; the Stanley Cup Playoffs kick off tonight with Pens/Flyers kicking off the proceedings on NBC Sports Network at 6:30ET.

With that in mind, it’s also time to put our reputations on the line by making bold picks that will most likely not play out the way we think they will because that is the beauty of the playoffs…anything can, and will, happen.

Here are the eight playoff series:

Eastern Conference

(1) New York Rangers vs (8) Ottawa Senators

(2) Boston Bruins vs (7) Washington Capitals

(3) Florida Panthers vs (6) New Jersey Devils

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs (5) Philadelphia Flyers

Western Conference

(1) Vancouver Canucks vs (8) Los Angles Kings

(2) St. Louis Blues vs (7) San Jose Sharks

(3) Phoenix Coyotes vs (6) Chicago Blackhawks

(4) Nashville Predators vs (5) Detroit Red Wings

take the jump to find out my picks

Eastern Conference

(1) New York Rangers vs (8) Ottawa Senators: Rangers in 6; Craig Anderson steals one of the first two games and Ottawa rides the home crowd to one win

(2) Boston Bruins vs (7) Washington Capitals: Caps in 7; Something about this series tells me that Boston is due for an upset and Braden Holtby will get hot

(3) Florida Panthers vs (6) New Jersey Devils: Panthers in 7; Marty reaches the end of the road and the Panthers ride an emotional wave through the first round

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs (5) Philadelphia Flyers: Penguins in 7; This will be the series to watch in the East as both teams throw heymakers and split the first 4 games but Pittsburgh’s offensive depth and goaltending give them the edge

Western Conference

(1) Vancouver Canucks vs (8) Los Angles Kings: Canucks in 5; The Kings can’t score to save their lives and the Canucks are a team on a mission.

(2) St. Louis Blues vs (7) San Jose Sharks: Blues in 6; Joe Thorton plays awfully small in April and Ken Hitchcock will be suffocating the Sharks offense all series

(3) Phoenix Coyotes vs (6) Chicago Blackhawks: Blackhawks in 7; Mike Smith will carry the Yotes on his back for three games this series, but if Toews is indeed healthy then there’s no way the Hawks don’t make it out of the 1st round

(4) Nashville Predators vs (5) Detroit Red Wings: Predators in 5; The Swan Song for Nik Lidstrom is a short one as better goaltending and quicker legs get the better of the Red Wings

Eastern Conference Finals

(1) New York Rangers vs (4) Pittsburgh Penguins: Rangers in 7; The Rangers defense and goaltending will be like a snow ball rolling down Mount Everest and will be a force to be reckoned with all post season long

Western Conference Finals

(1) Vancouver Canucks vs (2) St. Louis Blues: Blues in 6; The Blues are the Rangers-lite, as their defensive systems grind teams down over the long course of the playoffs and after saving them against Chicago Corey Schneider doesn’t have enough magic left to get the Canucks all the way

Stanley Cup Finals

(1) New York Rangers vs (2) St. Louis Blues: Rangers in 6; Surprisingly I think the Rangers offense carries them to glory in this series as New York has just that much more in the tank than the Blues by this point

Conn Smythe: Ryan Callahan

Jaroslav Halak” of the 2012 Playoffs (Hot Goalie): Corey Schneider

there you have it…tear me to shreds, blame me for jinxing the team, but use this for your own predictions as well as an open thread for tonight’s games…enjoy it
