Pavel Buchnevich has the longest goal streak of any rookie this season
It took him a bit to find the net. Now, he can’t stop.
Pavel Buchnevich went the first six games of his NHL career without a goal. He did pick up two assists over that time, so he wasn’t held pointless; still, it must have been frustrating to come over to a new country, new league, and not score - especially with the rate the New York Rangers were scoring at.
But then, in his seventh game, he got his first.
And he hasn’t stopped scoring since.
Buchnevich is currently on a four-game goal streak, which has really lifted him up in regards to rookie scoring: eight points, 10 games, .8 points per game (tied for third among rookies).
Not only that, but from the Elias Sports Bureau, this kind of streak isn’t exactly common:
Buchnevich's goal-scoring streak is the longest by a rookie in the NHL this season and the longest single-season goal streak by a Rangers rookie since Derek Stepan scored in four straight games in December 2010. The only rookie to post a four-game goal streak in the NHL last season was Dylan Larkin of the Red Wings (Nov. 16-21, 2015).
Can Buchnevich keep it going? We definitely hope so - but for now, it’s just awesome to see him find his game in North America.
